Title 15th International Congress on Extremophiles 2026
Dates September 13 (Sun)‒17 (Thr), 2026
Venue Yonsei University, Seoul, Republic of Korea

Conference Theme

"Extremophiles and extremozymes: From Life at the Limits to a Sustainable Bioeconomy."
The theme of “Extremophiles and Extremozymes: From Life at the Limits to a Sustainable Bioeconomy” reflects both the diversity of extremophilic life and its growing impact on science and society. By exploring how organisms thrive under the most challenging conditions on Earth, we gain profound insights into evolution, adaptation, and survival. At the same time, the unique enzymes and biomolecules derived from these organisms provide powerful tools for industrial innovation and sustainability. This congress will bridge fundamental discoveries with translational applications, highlighting the role of extremophiles and extremozymes in building a future-oriented bioeconomy.

Conference LOGO

The logo for Extremophiles 2026 symbolizes the global reach of the extremophiles community, representing the six continents (Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Australia) together with Antarctica, illustrated as the hexagonal core. The circular motifs highlight the remarkable diversity of extremophiles — from psychrophiles to hyperthermophiles, as well as halophiles, acidophiles, alkaliphiles, piezophiles, and beyond.
At its center, the hexagonal core and molecular-like structure emphasize the scientific essence of extremophiles research, pointing to molecular adaptation, evolutionary biology, and biotechnological applications. This integrated design conveys both the unity of the international community and the interdisciplinary connections spanning ecology, genomics, biotechnology, and bioeconomy.
